The Holiday Radar Map
Hard to believe but Christmas is only 10 weeks from today! You are probably thinking about putting the finishing touches on the kids costumes for Halloween and worrying if you have sufficient candy to supply the neighborhood, but to enjoy some of Vermont's great holiday traditions requires a little advance planning. Here is what you need to know now.
The Nutcracker - November 29 & 30, 2008
If you like to kick off the Holiday season on Thanksgiving weekend then this might be the perfect thing for your family. The Albany Berkshire Ballet is coming to the Flynn Theater for 3 shows to perform the most loved Christmas Ballet of all time.
Toys Take Over Christmas - December 6 & 7, 2008
Tickets for these 6 shows just went on sale this week. This holiday play is put on by the UVM Theatre. As a special treat, kids even get to meet Santa after the show is over. At $12 (adult) and $7 (children) this may prove to be the least expensive holiday outing option.
The Polar Express - December 13 & 14, 2008
This event is perfect for kids ages 3-10 with the story of the Polar Express being recreated on a magical train ride that departs from Union Station and is complete with hot cocoa and a trip to the "North Pole". Make sure to come in your PJs.
Tickets for this event are available by Lottery Only. The Lottery is open from now until October 31. There is a limit of 5 tickets per entry ($18 each). The good news is there are a total of 16 shows this year. Good Luck!
A Christmas Carol - December 14, 2008
On stage at the Flynn for one show only. Charles Dicken's classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come are brought to life in this Victorian morality musical.
The Nutcracker - December 20 & 21, 2008
Our own Vermont Ballet Theater is coming to the Flynn for 3 performances of this holiday classic. After the daytime shows take your little Clara to the Nutcracker Tea (additional $) for a special treat to meet the Sugarplum Fairy and have pictures taken with her and other members of the cast.
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, Ring ting tingling too...
